James Haybyrne is Chairman, Strategic Thinking Group, a strategy advisory firm he founded in 1993. Jim has spent over forty years in international management consulting and has lived and worked in over 35 countries, including living for several years in each of our oldest continuous civilizations… Egypt, China, India, and Japan. He formerly was a Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers responsible for consulting assignments with a specific focus on Asia.

Jim has consulted on strategy to over 120 CEOs and their executive leadership teams and has worked in over 35 countries. His strategy clients include Aegon, China Airlines, Bayer, Prudential (U.K.), Hong Kong Shanghai Hotels (The Peninsula Hotels) and Lane Crawford. He holds a Master of Science Degree in Systems Management and a Master of Science Degree in Organization Development from the University of Southern California for whom he also taught Organization Theory at the graduate level.

He developed the principle of the Strategic Anchor®, a simple but powerful concept that is used by his global clients to craft their strategies and is the author of the book “Dream. Think. Become. Essays for the Mind of a Strategic Thinker” in which he shares his insights to the power of strategic thinking and its impact on organizational performance. He is a member of the Governing Committee of Prince of Wales Hospital, an eleven hundred bed teaching hospital, and is the Co-Founder of the Lii-Haybyrne Institute for Asian Studies which promotes cross cultural understanding about India, China and Japan.

He was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force and served two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kerala, India, working in small scale industry development.

Jim is a citizen of both the United States of America and the Republic of Ireland and has been a Permanent Resident of Hong Kong since 1988.
